Fawn - Fine Weave Shoulder Bag
Designed to accommodate a whole lot of stuff with its roomy size, this intricately hand woven sisal shoulder bag embodies sustainable style with functionality. Featuring natural earthy tones, and comfortable long leather straps, it is effortless to carry around and perfect for shopping and work.
The open aspect of the bag means you can easily throw things in and find them after, and the fine weave technique used makes it highly durable.
Made by a women's collective in rural Kenya from locally grown sisal, every bag features unique patterns. The sisal fibre is first dyed using practices that are compliant with the highest social and environmental standards. They are then dried and twined by hand using traditional methods passed down through generations. The weaving then begins using the prepared twines, creating these beautiful shoulder bags. The bag straps are finished by hand using goats leather from a local tannery.
Every basket provides an essential livelihood to rural artisans and have been hand woven by a women's collective based in a wildlife sanctuary in the Tsavo region of Kenya. Utilising the power of handicrafts and the age-old traditions of basket weaving, our artisan partner Hadithi Crafts has enabled rural women to find an alternative and sustainable way to make a living.
The profits made from their craft supports them and the local community which has historically been reliant on farming - a practice that has become more unreliable due to the scarcity of rain in this semi-arid area.
Made in Kenya by Hadithi Crafts
Material: Sisal and goats leather
Size: 40cm top width | 20cm bottom width | 28cm height
Care: Spot clean and keep away from direct sunlight to protect the natural material and prevent fading. Store in a dry and damp proof environment.
Please also note:
- Should your basket come into contact with water, let it dry thoroughly and re-shape if required.
- Dried palm leaves and sisal are natural materials and if left damp for too long, will develop mould.
- If you plan to use your basket as a planter, then lining it with something waterproof on the inside is advisable to prevent the natural material from rotting and dyes from running.
